Michael Nyman

Michael Nyman is one of the most versatile, popular and successful composers of his generation. His distinctive idiom displays strong melodic profiles and high-energy drive. Language fuses minimalism with baroque and popular music. Enjoys co-existent careers writing for live performance and for film. Michael Nyman Band has toured internationally for more than 25 years. Stageworks include the operas The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat (1986), Facing Goya (2000) and Man and Boy: Dada (2003). Music has been choreographed by Siobhan Davies, Lucinda Childs, Karine Saporto and Stephen Petronio. Concert works created for John Harle, Gidon Kremer, Christian Lindberg, Julian Lloyd Webber, Katharine Stott, Elisabeth Chojnacka, the Labeque Sisters and Ute Lemper. Movie credits include The Draughtsman.s Contract (Peter Greenaway), The Piano (Jane Campion), Gattaca (Andrew Niccol), Wonderland and The Claim (Michael Winterbottom). Music is extensively recorded on Virgin, Decca, EMI, and the composer's own label, Michael Nyman Records.
